Modern Rituals - Jutting Chin

This is a new song off of the forthcoming second album from my band Modern Rituals. Drums, bass and guitars were tracked live in the room with no isolation, with vocals and some leads and weird sounds overdubbed after. The big drum sounds are coming from having mics out in the hallway - there’s a tiny bit of reverb but this is mostly natural. This is the way I naturally lean for things to sound - big and slightly hyped but generally very natural.

Employed To Serve - Purity

Real fun Slipknot cover for all the Maggots out there. Pretty chunky spot mic vibes on the drums, but plenty of ‘down sections’ where everything switches to sounding real small and distant before kicking back in. Real fun working on this one! Ace DJ sounds achieved through pick scrapes! Nice to hear Sammy singing, too.

Brutalligators - Excited

So these guys actually recorded this themselves and I mixed it. They did a pretty good job, there really wasn’t anything that needed ‘fixing’ as is sometimes the case when I mix other people’s recordings - the drums especially sounded rad as they were recorded in a school hall! Really fun band, great big vocal sounds.

Absentees - Kin/Dust

One of my other bands, Absentees, aim with this record was to sound as aggressive as possible. The tones are all pretty harsh and it hits real hard… but the second half of the song is a bit more atmospheric, switching between heavy and slightly more tense and sparse.
